The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the Allard Pearson Museum – Archaeological Museum of the University of Amsterdam agreed on the return of the Scythian gold collection from four Crimean museums. This was reported by the press service of the ICIP on Wednesday, November 22.

The document was signed by at. Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Rostyslav Karandeev and Acting Director of the University Library of the University of Amsterdam, Dr. Fred Virmen.

Museum items include the collections of Crimean republican institutions, the Tavrida Central Museum, the Kerch Historical and Cultural Reserve, the Bakhchisarai Historical and Cultural Reserve, and the Chersonese Tavri National Reserve. Since 2014, they have been exhibited at the exhibition “Crimea – a golden island in the Black Sea” in the Netherlands.

“The return of artifacts of special historical and cultural significance is a significant and multifaceted process. It combines legal, museum, diplomatic and logistical aspects. We are looking forward to returning the collections, one of which is known as “Scythian gold”, back home to Ukraine,” said Karandeev.

He expressed gratitude to the Allard Pearson Museum for preserving the collections for nine years, as well as for the decision of the Dutch side not to charge for the preservation of museum exhibits.
