Ukraine and the EU signed an open skies agreement

Ukraine and the European Union signed an agreement on a joint aviation space or open skies. This became known on Tuesday, October 12.

The signing ceremony took place within the framework of the Ukraine-EU summit in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Head of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

The agreement on the joint airspace was signed by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal, the Ambassador of Slovenia to Ukraine Tomaž Mencin and the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

The document still needs to be ratified by each member state, the European Union and Ukraine.

According to the open skies agreement, any EU country will be able to appoint any European carrier to operate flights to Ukraine. In addition, European carriers get the right to fly on domestic Ukrainian flights.

On the eve of the EU representative said that the signing of the open skies agreement will increase the number of travelers and give an impetus to the tourist attractiveness of Ukraine. New low-cost carriers will also enter the country.
