At the beginning of August, Ukraine’s gas reserves reached the target of 17 billion cubic meters, the press service of Naftogaz reported on Monday, August 2.
At the same time, 3.9 billion cubic meters are kept in the UGS facility in the “customs warehouse” mode and are owned by foreign traders and private resident companies.
“We expect that under normal market conditions, private companies will sell the volumes of gas they store in underground storage facilities in Ukraine, and not export it abroad. For its part, the company continues to import gas and pump it into storage. According to our internal plans, the volumes should be even higher, ”said the head of Naftogaz Yuriy Vitrenko.
This year, the government decided to accumulate at least 17 billion cubic meters of gas for the heating season, although the country entered the last heating season with record reserves of almost 28.5 billion cubic meters.
Ukraine started pumping imported gas into UGS facilities only in June, and low volumes of purchases are explained by the high price of gas in Europe, which exceeded $ 500 per thousand cubic meters.
