The court allowed an investigation in absentia against the fugitive President Viktor Yanukovych in the case of the executions of participants in the Revolution of Dignity, the President’s Office said. Given that Yanukovych is hiding in the Russian Federation, such a court decision will allow Ukrainian law enforcement agencies to conduct an investigation in his absence.
With the participation of prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Pechersk District Court of Kiev, the request of the investigator of the State Bureau of Investigation for permission to conduct a special pre-trial investigation against the former President of Ukraine in criminal proceedings on the facts of organizing a number of grave and especially grave violent crimes, including premeditated murders committed in against protesters in February 2014 in the central part of the city of Kiev – on the Independence Square and adjacent streets.
