In particular, several individuals of Chapman’s zebra, American bison, Przewalski’s horses and David’s deer were taken to the “Rostovsky” nature reserve in Russia, said the Minister of Environment Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ruslan Strilets.

According to him, all these species are in the Red Book and are included in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature with the status of “disappeared from nature”, “endangered” and “close to endangered”.

Instead, the Russians moved Kanna antelopes, domestic yaks, two-humped camels and one guanaco to “Askania-Nova”.

“The occupiers once again defiantly violated the norms of international environmental conventions. The Ministry of Environment is preparing repeated notes to the secretariats of the Bern, Ramsar, and Bonn Conventions, UNESCO, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the CITES secretariat. This step will allow the issue to be widely publicized in the international arena. Russia will definitely suffer a fair punishment for its illegal actions,” Strelets said.

We will remind you that the Ministry of Environment appealed to international environmental conventions to recognize as illegal the actions of Russians in the occupied nature reserve territories of the Kherson region. The reserve has been under occupation since the first day of the full-scale invasion, but until the end of March 2023, the Ukrainian Askania-Nova team continued to perform its duties without cooperating with the occupiers. However, the invaders did appoint their own illegitimate management of the reserve.
