At the Congress of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) in Lausanne (Switzerland), the best fencers were named for the 2020-2021 season. The Ukrainians have traditionally taken the highest awards.
The bronze medalist of the Games of the XXXII Olympiad Igor Reizlin became the leader in the men’s epee rating. In Tokyo, 36-year-old Reislin made his debut Olympic medal. Also in March, the epee fencer won the World Cup in Kazan.
In the women’s saber, the Olympic champion, silver and two-time bronze medalist of the Olympic Games, six-time world champion Olga Harlan was recognized as the best. The Ukrainian topped the world ranking for the fifth time.
Note that at the Congress, the Minister of Sports and Youth of Ukraine, Olympic champion Vadim Gutsait was elected a member of the FIE Executive Committee.
