The North Atlantic Alliance has been consistent in supporting Ukraine, welcomes its efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine and calls on Russia to withdraw its troops from the region.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this at a press conference following talks with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal in Brussels on February 9.

“During our meeting today, we discussed the security situation in Ukraine and the Black Sea region. NATO allies are united in condemning Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea and its aggressive actions in eastern Ukraine. We call on Russia to end its support for the militants in eastern Ukraine and withdraw its troops from the region. I encourage Ukraine’s efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict,” Stoltenberg said.

A Ukrainian government delegation headed by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal began a working visit to Brussels on February 9. Shmyhal met with European Council President Charles Michel and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The program of the visit includes a series of working meetings with representatives of the European Commission and the European Parliament. On February 11, Shmyhal will lead the talks in the format of the EU-Ukraine Association Council.
