The Minister of Health of Ukraine Maxim Stepanov spoke in favor of extending the lowdown in the country after January 24. He is sure that there are grounds for this.

According to the minister, he is in favor of extending the lockdown in Ukraine for several reasons: primarily because of the New Year holidays, which were accompanied by massive celebrations and visits to relatives.

“Firstly, we had the January holidays, which were accompanied by mass celebrations, the movement of people when we went to visit relatives. All this has the potential to greatly affect the growth in the number of patients with COVID-19. Secondly, we have an annual seasonal increase in patients with influenza, which begins in January and it is very important to bring down the disease at this peak,” he said.

In Ukraine, from January 8 to January 24, there is a strict quarantine.

Stepanov also called the goal of introducing a lockdown in Ukraine to limit contacts between citizens and reduce pressure on the healthcare system before the outbreak of influenza.
