Infectious disease doctor Viktor Petrov says that a new strain of coronavirus recorded in Britain is already in Transcarpathia.

“First of all, it’s worth noting that the virus mutates naturally, and this virus naturally mutates very actively – just like the hepatitis C or influenza virus. Why? Because it contains only one RNA, this is one carrier of the genetic material,” he explained the situation with the mutation.

According to him, the clinical picture of the virus is already changing in the regions of Ukraine adjacent to the EU countries.

“One such example is my patient Nikolai. He travels from Ukraine to the Czech Republic and back. And he has already been ill with the new strain that the UK announced. When it came to verifying this, Ukraine is unable to identify this virus in mass testing. But people who have insurance in EU countries can identify an already mutated virus. And thus I was able to confirm that there are already cases of infection with a new virus strain in Transcarpathia, ”the doctor says.

Petrov also explained what the main disadvantage of the coronavirus vaccine is.

“The vaccine will have a certain frequency of administration. That is, like influenza vaccination, it will require not only two doses, but, possibly, it will need to be repeated in a few years. There are no big hopes that we will completely overcome the coronavirus with the help of vaccination, because according to statistics, somewhere around 35-40% of people categorically refuse to be vaccinated,” he summed up.

The Center for Public Health of Ukraine believes that the emergence of a new strain of coronavirus was predictable.
