The Ukrainian defenders carried out a successful counterattack near Avdiivka and advanced forward. This is stated in a report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) for Sunday, November 19.
Analysts note that Ukrainian and Russian troops continue to fight in eastern and southern Ukraine, although rainy weather is likely to continue to slow the pace of fighting until winter conditions set in.
According to ISW experts, the Defense Forces counterattacked near Avdiivka and made a confirmed advance on November 19th. In particular, geolocation data published on November 19 indicate that Ukrainian forces have advanced near the railway southeast of Stepove (3 km northwest of Avdiivka).
The Russian military correspondent also claimed that Ukrainian forces recaptured positions near the railway near Stepovoy and counterattacked near the Avdiivka coke plant.
At the same time, the report says, Russian troops carried out offensive operations near Avdievka, but did not achieve any confirmed successes on November 19.
Russian “military correspondents” claimed on November 18 and 19 that Russian troops advanced into the area of the industrial zone on the southeastern outskirts of Avdievka, the Avdeevka coke plant and the railroad west and northwest of Krasnohorivka (5 km northwest of Avdeevka).
In addition, a Russian “military correspondent” stated on November 19 that elements of the Russian 114th Motorized Rifle Brigade (1st Army Corps “DPR”) and Storm-Z units advanced near the Tsarskaya Okhota restaurant south of Avdeevka, but later retracted this statements after other Russian sources denied the claim.
Let us recall that earlier the speaker of the United Press Center of the Tauride Defense Forces, Alexander Shtupun, said that the Russian military is using the “take a position or die” tactic, the enemy command is trying to make up for losses.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine also stated that Ukrainian fighters are firmly holding the defense in the Avdiivka direction. The Russian army is suffering losses.
