Ukrainian troops liberated 20 sq. km in the suburbs of Bakhmut. But the Russian aggressors are advancing in the city itself. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Malyar on Tuesday, May 16.
“Within a few days, our troops liberated about 20 square kilometers from the enemy in the north and south of the suburb of Bakhmut. At the same time, the enemy advances somewhat in Bakhmut itself, destroying the city to smithereens with artillery. In addition, the enemy is pulling up units of professional paratroopers. Heavy fighting continues,” she wrote.
Malyar stressed that information about the course of hostilities should be considered in the complex of all measures of the defense operation and not taken out of the context of events.
“In the current situation, our troops are doing their maximum and even more. The fact that the defense of Bakhmut lasts for so many months, and even in certain areas there is progress, is the super-effort of our fighters and the high level of professionalism of the defense command,” said the Deputy Minister.
She recalled that the Russians have an advantage in the number of people and weapons, but they cannot realize their plans in the Bakhmut direction last summer.
