Court in The Hague issues arrest warrant for Putin

The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague has issued international warrants for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported in a court press release on Friday, March 17.

“Today, the Second Pretrial Chamber of the International Criminal Court issued warrants for the arrest of two persons in the context of the situation in Ukraine: Mr. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Mrs. Maria Alekseevna Lvova-Belova (Ombudsman for Children’s Rights in the Russian Federation – ed.),” the press release says. The court explains that Putin and Lvova-Belova are suspected of illegal deportation of Ukrainian children.

The day before, the UN Commission of Inquiry stated that the removal of Ukrainian children to Russian territory could be considered a war crime.
