Based on the results of sequencing, the reference laboratory of the Public Health Center (CSP) confirmed the variant of the coronavirus disease strain Omicron XBB.1.5, also known as Kraken, in four regions of Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the CSO on Wednesday, February 22.

“Thanks to sequencing, we confirm that the Omicron XBB.1.5 variant is already circulating in four regions: Sumy, where the first patient was, Zakarpattia, Ternopil and Odessa,” said the head of the reference laboratory for the diagnosis of HIV / AIDS, viral and especially dangerous pathogens CSO Irina Demchishina.

The Public Health Center notes that each new mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus displaces the previous one.

The DSP cautioned that although Omicron is easier to carry, it has the ability to be transmitted faster. This additionally burdens the medical system. In this regard, it is necessary to be vaccinated against COVID-19, including a booster vaccination.

A special vaccine against the Omicron strain is available in Ukraine. To receive a vaccination, it is not necessary to conclude a declaration with a family doctor.

The COVID-19 vaccine is available for all adults and children 5 years of age and older.

The CSO emphasizes that no examinations, specific medications, or diet are required before vaccination.
