Zelensky imposed sanctions against Novinsky and the governor of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has imposed sanctions against former people’s deputy Vadim Novinsky. Metropolitan Pavel and a number of other clergymen also fell under the sanctions.

Zelensky signed a decree on the introduction of the NSDC sanctions on January 24. The duration of the sanctions is five years. According to them, the assets and funds of the defendants are blocked, it is forbidden to use state lands and other assets, withdraw capital from Ukraine, and so on.

Sanctions were imposed against:

  • ex-people’s deputy Vadim Novinsky;
  • Viceroy of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra of the UOC, Metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl;
  • the so-called “Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimea of the Russian Orthodox Church” Shvets Rostislav;
  • the so-called “bishop of Bakhchisaray, vicar of the Simferopol diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church” Konstantin Chernyshev;
  • the so-called “Bishop of Dzhankoy and Razdolsky of the Russian Orthodox Church, administrator of the Dzhankoy diocese” Alexander Ovsyannikov;
  • the so-called “Archbishop of Rovenkovsky and Sverdlovsk of the Russian Orthodox Church” Alexander Taranov;
  • Metropolitan of Izyum and Kupyansk of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Ivanov Oleg;
    Bishop of Romensky and Burinsky of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Oleksiy Maslennikov;
  • the so-called “bishop of Koktebel of the Russian Orthodox Church, vicar of the Feodosia diocese” Vyacheslav Opanasenko;
  • Metropolitan Platon, head of the Feodosia diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
