Germany decided to send Kyiv offensive equipment, as well as the Patriot air defense system

US President Joe Biden had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during which military assistance to Ukraine was discussed. This was announced on Thursday, January 5, in the press service of the White House.

It is noted that during the negotiations, Scholz said that Germany intends to transfer its Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine.

President Biden and Chancellor Scholz expressed their common determination to continue providing the necessary financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support to Ukraine for as long as needed. To this end, the United States intends to supply Bradley infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, and Germany – Marder infantry fighting vehicles.

At the same time, it is noted that the countries plan to train Ukrainian troops to manage these systems.

In addition, Biden and Scholz reaffirmed their intention to continue supporting Ukraine’s urgent air defense needs.

In late December, the United States announced the donation of a battery of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine. Germany will join the United States in supplying an additional Patriot air defense battery to Ukraine.

The leaders of the two countries also welcomed the ongoing coordination efforts of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group and welcomed additional donations of air defense systems and combat vehicles.
