About 80% of Kherson residents left the city after February 24, 2022, about 20% of the pre-war population now lives in the city. This was announced on the air of the national telethon on Monday, January 2, by the commandant’s office of the defense of Kherson Dmitry Pletenchuk.
“Before the start of the full-scale invasion, the population was about 330,000. Now there are about 60-70,000 left,” Pletenchuk said.
He noted that among the rest there are people with limited mobility and socially unprotected citizens.
“There are those who just stay because they think it’s the norm. However, we urge once again, if possible, to leave the city of Kherson for the time being, because there are no safe places in Kherson yet, ”added Pletenchuk.
