The National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) imposed sanctions against the clergy of the UOC-MP and a number of other persons close to the Russian church. In particular, restrictions were imposed against the governor of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Pavel (Lebed), as well as the former people’s deputy Vadim Novinsky.

The media notes that the National Security and Defense Council imposed sanctions against Novinsky, the governor of the Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed), as well as a dozen clergymen of the UOC-MP, mainly from the territories occupied by Russia.

It should be noted that on Friday, December 2, President Volodymyr Zelensky introduced personal sanctions against some representatives of religious organizations affiliated with centers of influence in the Russian Federation.

It is noted that he made this decision at a meeting on December 1 after “considering the activities of religious organizations on the territory of Ukraine in the conditions of Russian military aggression and to ensure spiritual independence, prevent a split in society along religious lines, promote the consolidation of Ukrainian society and protect the national interests of Ukraine.”

The list of sanctioned names in the Office of the President was promised to be made public later.
