Максим Микитась

On Tuesday, October 18, NABU and SAPO exposed the former people’s deputy in an attempt to bribe the mayor of Dnipro for 22 million euros. This is one of the record amounts of proposed unlawful benefits recorded by law enforcement officers in Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of NABU.

According to the investigation, in October 2022, a former people’s deputy of Ukraine (formerly a top official of the state company UkrBud) offered the mayor of the city of Dnipro an unlawful benefit for concluding a contract with companies controlled by him for the construction of a subway in Dnipro out of competition. He promised to provide funds in installments throughout the duration of the project – until 2027.

The ex-people’s deputy estimated the “loyalty” of the mayor at 10% of the project cost (220 million euros), which is, respectively, 22 million euros. The project is financed with a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The person was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine, the issue of notification of suspicion is being resolved. Preliminary legal qualification of an offense – Part 4 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

NABU began investigating these facts at the request of the Mayor of Dnipro.

The ex-people’s deputy is also accused in another case, investigated by NABU and SAPO, on the fact of taking 81 million hryvnias of funds from the National Guard. The case is being heard in court.

Law enforcement officers do not indicate the name of the former MP, but as it became known to Interfax-Ukraine journalists, the person in question is Maxim Mykytas.

Earlier, the ex-head of the State Fiscal Service and the owner of the agricultural holding were exposed in fraud with the reimbursement of UAH 3.2 billion of VAT.

Recall that Maxim Mykytas was arrested in the hall of the Shevchenkovsky district court of the capital on December 31, 2020. He was suspected of ordering the kidnapping of a person – lawyer Oleg Miroshnichenko – and extortion. Later, on March 5, 2021, Mikitas was left under arrest for another two months without the right to bail. The ex-people’s deputy was supposed to remain under arrest until April 24 inclusive. But soon the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv decided to release Maxim Mykytas from custody. The court granted the petition of his lawyers and he was under night house arrest.
