For the first time in 10 years, Ukraine will harvest one and a half times more buckwheat than the domestic consumer needs. This was announced by First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky during a briefing on Monday, September 19.

According to him, almost 60,000 tons have already been threshed this year.

“We can expect buckwheat production of about 140-150 thousand tons this year. And domestic consumption is 100-110 thousand, taking into account the emigration of the population and the decrease in consumers. That is, for the first time in the last decade, we can reach buckwheat production 1.5 times more than domestic consumption and even form a strategic reserve,” he said.

Over the past five years, 30-40% of buckwheat in Ukraine has been imported, Vysotsky noted.
