The Perechinsky District Court of the Transcarpathian Region arrested the corporate rights of the Nikolaev Alumina Plant, owned by Guardon Ukraine and the Aluminum Company of Ukraine.

According to the information in the court register, the relevant decision is dated March 30, 2022, and on May 31 it was confirmed by the Transcarpathian Court of Appeal.

At the same time, money was arrested on the accounts of the Nikolaev Alumina Plant in Oschadbank, Raiffeisen Bank, and MR Bank.

As stated in the text of the court decision, the arrests were imposed as part of criminal proceedings for tax evasion and embezzlement of property on an especially large scale by the management of the plant. The pre-trial investigation has been carried out by the National Police since March 25.

The total amount of financial and business transactions that raise doubts among investigators is more than UAH 200 million. The materials of law enforcement authorities state that there were facts of underestimation of tax liabilities, overestimation of the amount of the budgetary VAT refund, overestimation of the tax credit.

Nikolaev Alumina Refinery is one of the largest non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises in Europe. Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska gained control of the enterprise in the early 2000s.

In 2016, Ukraine imposed sanctions against Oleg Deripaska’s companies OK Rusal and the Cypriot-related Judson Trading Limited. The following year, the Nikolaev Alumina Refinery announced that Rusal had sold NGZ to Glencore (Switzerland), a commodity trader. However, in 2018 it became known that Oleg Deripaska left control over the plant.

On March 1, 2022, the aluminum giant company Rusal of the Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska announced that it had temporarily stopped production at the Nikolaev Alumina Refinery.
