British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who arrived in Kyiv on Saturday, April 9, presented a new package of financial and military assistance to President Volodymyr Zelensky. This is reported by the BBC with reference to the press secretary of the British government.
It is noted that the visit was intended to “demonstrate solidarity” with the Ukrainian people, but there are more practical topics for discussion.
“The Prime Minister traveled to Ukraine to meet with President Zelensky personally and show solidarity with the Ukrainian people. They will discuss long-term UK support for Ukraine, and the Prime Minister will present (Zelensky) with a new financial and military aid package,” the statement said.
In turn, the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, said in Telegram that Johnson’s visit was not spontaneous.
“I communicate regularly with Johnson’s security adviser Stephen Lovegrove and international affairs adviser David Quarry, so this visit was not spontaneous. It won’t be long to wait for the results,” Yermak wrote, adding that he can already say that Ukraine will become even stronger.
Later, Johnson also commented on the results of the visit.
“Today I met with my friend President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv to demonstrate our strong support to the people of Ukraine. We are creating a new financial and military aid package as a testament to our dedication to his country’s fight against Russia’s barbaric campaign,” Johnson tweeted.
