The Russian military will have to ensure the maintenance of peace on the territory of the “DNR” and “LNR”. This follows from the decrees of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the recognition of the republics, published on the portal of legal information.
According to the decrees, the military will carry out these functions until the conclusion of agreements on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance.
“The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation must ensure, before the conclusion of the agreement specified in paragraph 3 of this decree, that the armed forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic carry out peacekeeping functions,” the decree on recognition of the “DPR” says. A similar wording is contained in the decree on the recognition of the “LPR”.
