President of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Paco Valcarcel has said he hopes that the fight between WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua from Britain and mandatory contender Oleksandr Usyk from Ukraine will take place in the near future.

“Hope boxing fans will enjoy Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk in the near future,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

Initially, the WBO approved the fight for the title of absolute world champion between Joshua and Tyson Fury, whereas Usyk was offered to fight for a temporary title with another Briton – Joe Joyce.

However, on May 17, an arbitrator ordered Fury to hold a third fight with American Deontay Wilder by September 15, so his fight against Joshua is now at risk of collapse.
