Its privatization, NBU is sure, may be of interest to the most prestigious international investors, since the Ukrainian banking sector has potential. This was stated by the head of the NBU Kirill Shevchenko in an interview with GlobalCapital.

“Our banking sector has significant potential for international investors. We hope that in the near future international banking groups will acquire stakes in Ukrainian state banks, ”Shevchenko said.

According to him, one of the largest Ukrainian banks, PrivatBank, will soon be put up for sale.

“We believe that the privatization of Privatbank, which owns 20% of the Ukrainian banking market, will be of interest to the most prestigious international investors, including those from the US and the EU,” the NBU head said.

He also added that the National Bank continues to support PrivatBank’s strategy in courts with its ex-owners Igor Kolomoisky and Gennady Bogolyubov.

There are about 100 lawsuits in the PrivatBank case, Shevchenko said.
